How Toxicology Began
About the Founder
Kimberly L. Williams
Founder & CEO, Toxicology Inc.
Health and wellness have been a central part of Kimberly Williams’ life from an early age. A former competitive dancer and gymnast, she later worked as a medical sales representative for several of the largest pharmaceutical and medical companies in the world. Her career also expanded into personal training, health writing for Aspen Healthy Planet Magazine, hosting the VoiceAmerica.com podcast “Raw to Radiant,” and serving as a guest chef at the Cooking School of Aspen. Alongside these professional roles, Kimberly is also a mother, and it was motherhood that ultimately changed the course of her work.
In 1999, Kimberly’s daughter was born with persistent health challenges. She cried inconsolably, developed unexplained rashes, and struggled to sleep. The symptoms were initially dismissed as colic, and she was advised that the problem would resolve on its own. However, Kimberly’s instincts told her something deeper was wrong.
After extensive research and persistence, she discovered the rashes were reactions to certain foods. More concerning, her daughter’s inability to sleep was caused by severe obstructive sleep apnea. Her tonsils and adenoids were so enlarged that they obstructed much of her airway, making it difficult for her to breathe when lying down. This discovery reinforced for Kimberly how critical it is to question assumptions and investigate the root causes of health issues.
That experience changed the direction of her professional life.
After more than a decade working in conventional medicine alongside major pharmaceutical and medical companies, Kimberly began focusing on medical research, nutrition, and environmental health. She founded Idella’s Natural Gourmet, one of the early companies producing organic gluten-free cookies designed for people with food allergies and sensitivities.
Later, she opened Nur-ish, an organic raw foods co-op that served a variety of nutrient-dense dishes, including fresh ceviches, carpaccio, and raw dairy desserts. During this time, Kimberly continued her long-standing commitment to daily yoga practice, volunteering in her daughter’s school community, and deepening her study of health and nutrition.
Through years of research and professional experience, Kimberly came to believe that many health conditions involve a combination of two fundamental factors: toxic exposures and nutritional deficiencies. While both play a role, environmental exposures within the home are often overlooked.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, indoor air can be significantly more polluted than outdoor air due to modern materials, plastics, synthetic fragrances, and chemical products commonly used in everyday living spaces. These compounds—often referred to as volatile organic compounds (VOCs)—can circulate throughout the home and become part of the air we breathe.
Recognizing how little attention is given to the home environment during illness or recovery, Kimberly founded Toxicology Inc.
Toxicology was created as a public service focused on education and awareness. Through home assessments and consultations, Kimberly helps individuals and families identify environmental factors that may contribute to unnecessary physiological stress, especially during times when the body needs to heal.
Born in Flint, Michigan, Kimberly has lived in several regions across the United States and has had the opportunity to learn from experts across multiple fields of health and wellness. Her work today reflects decades of personal experience, professional exposure to the medical field, and a continued commitment to helping people better understand how their environment influences their well-being.
At its core, Toxicology encourages individuals to take an informed and proactive role in their health—starting with the place they spend the most time: their home.
